This page will guide you through the build process for our scratch built, 1:12 scale JAWS Orca model boat replica. Our handcrafted model is 42" long from stern to pulpit. The details on the Orca in the film vary from scene to scene, our version is a depiction of what we feel shows the best details and stays true to the cinematic masterpiece that we all love to watch!

The hand crafted solid oak display base features a laser engraved plaque and a black distressed finish.
Every piece of our model Orca was hand cut and assembled from wood. No 3D printing whatsoever! We used a purchased set of drawings but modified them during the build process when we found discrepancies. When building a scale replica you can easily go down a rabbit hole when it comes to being screen accurate. The Orca's details changed from scene to scene, eventually you need to move forward with the information you have and do the best you can. I have seen many Orca models and each one is unique to the artist and they are all huge accomplishments for sure. As an artist as long as you are happy with the finished creation then you have succeeded!
Of course everyone asked about the barrels. I sculpted the master myself, absolutely no 3D printing was used on my build. I then created a silicone mold and cast them is black resin, then some yellow paint and of course the distressing.
We went all out on our chum bucket. We sculpted a fish, molded it, cast them in a fish colored resin, painted them silver and them chopped them up!
We created the chum buckets using the same process, master sculpt, mold and white colored resin casts.
We used a red tinted epoxy to mimic the blood and mixed it all up! We thought such an iconic part of the movie deserved the best we could do for this Orca model. I think it turned out fantastic!
Our fishing chair is a detail we are proud of, we still have to add the vinyl pads and the kick plate, but she still is a great representation of Quint's famous chair, add a few cans of Narragansett beer and it's perfect! Made from thin gauge brass sheet and wood with a chemical patina
The masthead fly or wind indicators flag is a mystery. There is no known reference on what markings the flag had, it's really never seen. If anyone has any information please pass it along.
Since it is never shown in the movie, we chose a classic lobster boat prop and rudder set up. We used a cast brass 3 blade from a supplier in the UK, nice detail.
